County employee charged with embezzling $24K+ in alleged credit card fraud case

From ABC 4 News, “Authorities say a Charleston County Emergency Operations Center employee has been charged with embezzling nearly $25,000 in public funds as part of an alleged credit card fraud case scheme lasted four years.

An affidavit provided by the sheriff’s office shows Pace is accused of stealing taxpayer money by using a county-issued credit card to make personal purchases, then forging a supervisor’s signature on credit card statements to cover her tracks.

County officials claim Pace used the credit card to make $24,707 in personal purchases between Oct. 2013 and Sept. 2017.

According to a an incident report from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, officials at the county EMD officials began looking into possible fraud when they flagged 18 irregular purchases Pace allegedly made on her county credit card between July-September 2017. The charges totaled $4,753.”
