Man convicted of embezzling gives presentation on employee fraud

From WEAU 13 News, “Mueller, a licensed CPA, was caught embezzling nearly $8.5 million from his employer, and he was sentenced to more than five years in federal prison.

He worked for seven years for the financial service giant ING.

Mueller shared his story about how he went from being a trusted employee to an embezzler.

He offered advice to businesses on how to detect employee fraud.

He said fraud is everywhere, no matter how big or small the company is.

“People gain trust in positions and if they don’t have the proper control necessary or proper environment at work, if they don’t feel like part of a team, they might be more apt to do something unethical and maybe illegal so I think the possibility is everywhere,” said Mueller.”
