2 years ago, this Rancho Mirage employee was applauded for work. Now, she’s accused of embezzling from city and taxpayers

From Desert Sun, “Charges have been filed and an arrest warrant issued for Sandra A. Johnson, former code compliance manager for the city of Rancho Mirage, for embezzling over $78,000 while working for the city.

Also sought is Johnson’s sister-in-law Brandi Perry of Desert Hot Springs, who is married to Johnson’s brother.

Johnson, 50, resigned on May 23 amid allegations that she had approved payments to a family member for code compliance work that was not completed. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Department started investigating Johnson shortly before she resigned.

Johnson and Perry each face two charges of embezzlement and one charge of conspiracy to commit a crime. The charges were filed at Riverside County Superior Court on Tuesday.”
