Former Portsmouth town employee charged with embezzlement

From Turn to 10, “A former Portsmouth recreation director has been charged with embezzlement while working for the town.

Police say 42-year-old Timothy Dunbar, of Middletown, turned himself in Saturday. He is charged with 2 counts of embezzlement by a public official, 6 counts of obtaining money under false pretenses, and 6 counts of providing a false document to a public official/employer.

Police say an investigation began when Town Administrator Richard Rainer was notified by the finance department about irregularities in the town’s beach receipts.

An audit was conducted and it was revealed that Dunbar embezzled cash from the funds of the recreation department. It also revealed he submitted time sheets for 6 times he was not working.”
